Picture to Coloring Page

Prepare illustrations, screenshots and old photo scans for coloring. Learn cropping and cleanup, then try a picture and download a printable page.

Not every picture comes straight from a camera. You might have a drawing saved from a tablet, a screenshot of your own digital artwork, or a faded photograph scanned from a family album. These sources need different preparation. A screenshot can contain menus and tiny text; an illustration may have thick filled shapes instead of visible contours; an old print can carry scratches that look like meaningful edges.

A picture to coloring page workflow begins by separating the image you want from the noise around it. This page explains how to crop interface elements, place transparent illustrations on a light background, and scan an aging print without emphasizing paper texture. The embedded tool starts on Simple detail to favor larger, cleaner shapes. It creates a new interpretation rather than tracing every pixel exactly, so compare the preview with your source before printing. Use only pictures you own or have permission to adapt.

Try an illustration, screenshot or scan

Simple detail is selected for clean shapes. Crop your picture first and upload a JPG, PNG or WebP.

Prepare an illustration without losing its shape

Export your own artwork as PNG or JPG rather than taking a photograph of a monitor. Keep the subject's silhouette visible and separate overlapping shapes where possible. A dark character on a dark background may have no useful boundary for the converter to follow.

If the original has transparency, place it on white or a pale solid background before uploading. The tool prepares uploads on white and produces a white-background coloring page; it does not preserve the original alpha channel. For an SVG or layered drawing, export a raster copy while retaining the editable original for later corrections.

Use Simple for a bold cartoon or chunky object. Try Balanced when an illustration's small features carry its identity. If you already have clean black outlines, direct printing may be better than regenerating them.

Crop screenshots down to the artwork

Remove browser bars, notifications, selection handles, tool palettes, and the mouse pointer. Do not include private messages or account details. Save at the source's native size instead of enlarging a small thumbnail; interpolation can make outlines soft without adding information.

Text in screenshots is especially fragile. If a worksheet needs an exact name, date, or instruction, add it after conversion in a document or image editor. The converter is designed to create coloring shapes, not faithfully typeset text or preserve a user interface.

Scan an old photograph before converting it

For a small physical print, a 300–600 dpi scan is a useful starting point. Scan straight, clean the scanner glass, and avoid photographing a glossy print under a ceiling light. Keep a full-resolution archival copy, then crop a working copy to remove the album border.

Correct obvious fading gently. A moderate contrast adjustment can separate a jacket from the background, but extreme sharpening may turn grain and scratches into false contours. Repair a long scratch crossing a face before conversion. Sepia and black-and-white photos can work when the subject remains distinct; color itself is not required.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn a screenshot into a coloring page?

Yes, if the screenshot contains a clear picture in a supported format. Crop it to the artwork first. Menus and tiny interface text are poor coloring subjects, and the tool may simplify or omit text rather than reproduce it exactly.

Can I use a cartoon or illustration instead of a photo?

You can upload your own or properly licensed illustration. Keep its main outline clear and choose Simple for broad shapes. Conversion can alter the drawing, so preserve your original and inspect the new page for unwanted changes.

How do I convert an old black-and-white photo into a coloring page?

Scan the print evenly, crop away its border, and reduce distracting scratches or glare first. Good tonal separation helps more than adding artificial color. Use a scan in which the main face or object still has visible edges.

Will a transparent PNG stay transparent after conversion?

No. Upload preparation and coloring output use a white background. If you need a transparent design asset, follow the separate cleanup and alpha-export workflow in the Photo to Line Art guide.

Can I upload a PDF, GIF, SVG, or HEIC picture?

The uploader accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP up to 10 MB. Export one PDF page or one GIF frame as a supported image; rasterize SVG at a useful size; convert HEIC first. Keep the original source for future edits.
